the consequences of the Gerrards Cross tunnel collapse are still being felt
The Tesco Tunnel AT the time of writing, the consequences of the Gerrards Cross tunnel collapse are still being felt in the area and there appears to be no projected date for the work to be finished even though Tesco has indicated its intention to complete the store. The area of the tunnel remains unsightly and many residents are worried about the possible danger from the bottom ash that was used as fill material despite repeated assurances from the Environment Agency that it is inert and safe. Dominic Grieve is seeking an adjournment debate in Parliament to highlight the problems. He says, “Legally there is nothing that can stop Tesco proceeding with the construction. But it’s essential that Network Rail ensures that no work starts until it is satisfied that it can be done safely and without disruption to the railway service. It is also incumbent on Tesco to bring to an end as soon as possible the present uncertainty and clear up the mess it has made of the village centre.”
